Building a better future!

The Construction Technology program offers training in Carpentry, 电, 管道, 脚手架, Pipeline Insulation, Pipefitting, 和焊接. 的程度, 证书, and endorsements within the program are designed to prepare students to enter the workforce or to provide those currently employed with the opportunity to upgrade their skill level. IỊisaġvik 大学 uses the National Center for Construction 教育 and 研究 (NCCER) curricula, which are nationally recognized for craft training. NCCER maintains a National Registry that provides transcripts, certifications and wallet cards to students who successfully complete all required course work. Check the current year schedule to find out which classes are being offered in the spring and fall semesters for that year.

In addition to apprentice and related learning courses, these programs are designed to assist the student in realizing the following outcomes:

  • 应用 critical thinking skills to investigate, interpret and communicate issues involving the trade, 社区, 还有家.
  • Participate in coordinating projects and supervising others.
  • Work with a team unit in a direction that aligns with stated vision, mission and values. Work within the legal, regulatory and code parameters of the trade/community.
  • Seek out and engage in learning opportunities that broaden perspective, deepen understanding and increase personal fulfillment throughout life.
  • Integrate 捕猎人 knowledge, values and culture into business practice.

Successful completion of NCCER credentials are entered into NCCER’s National Registry. 雇主s recognize the credentials and may give hiring preferences or as part of a career ladder advancement.   

The Department of Labor recognizes NCCER credentials as acceptable Related Technical Instruction (RTI) for approved apprenticeships. 学生们 encouraged to contact their prospective Apprenticeship Sponsor on 可转移性.

电 and 管道 trades that lead to Alaska State licensure, will require a registered apprenticeship under the direct supervision of a licensed trade 专业. 我ḷisaġ维克’s Construction Trades program does meet the RTI requirements of apprenticeship. The On the Job Learning (OJL) portion of the apprenticeship must be under the direct supervision of a licensed trade 专业.  

Admission Requirements & 先决条件

You must pass a drug test and complete an ACCUPLACER math test to be accepted into these programs. 学生 must be in good physical 条件. 学生 should be able to tolerate confined spaces and heights. 学生们 expected to be able to read and understand task descriptions, safety manuals, and safety and warning signs. 学生 must also be able to give and receive oral safety warnings, instructions and task assignments. 学生 registering for the complete program have priority enrollment. 学生们 urged to apply as early as possible for this program. Enrollment is limited and the training is in heavy demand. 学生 who are put on the waitlist for the semester in which they applied are given preference in the following semester.
